UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Michelin, the world’s most coveted restaurant guide, just unexpectedly added 17 eateries to its prestigious New York restaurant guide, and two of them are on the Upper West Side.
The new set of restaurants are up for Michelin honors after visits by the guide’s inspectors, according to an announcement.
The restaurants likely will be considered for coveted Michelin stars and other awards.
The two to make it on the Upper West Side? Essential by Christophe, and Kebab aur Sharab.
Here’s more information about both.

Essential by Christophe: 103 W. 77th St.
The fine-dining French restaurant opened in December of 2022 and already has made quite the splash in the neighborhood.
Christophe Bellanca heads the eatery, who formerly worked as the head chef as celebrated New York City eateries such as Le Cirque and Atelier Joel Robchon.
“Chef Christophe Bellanca’s dishes echo a simple elegance, evidenced by plump white asparagus on a fragrant bergamot-flavored crème with a refreshing herb vinaigrette and paper-thin slices of watermelon radish,” reads a description from the Michelin Guide announcement.
The French inspired menu is available a la carte or as a four-course tasting, in addition to a bar menu of more casual dishes.
The Upper West Side address is clearly a hot spot for Michelin success, as Essential by Christophe replaced the upscale eatery Dovetail, which had also earned a Michelin star.

Kebab aur Sharab: 247 W. 72nd St.
The Indian restaurant also opened in December of 2022 on the Upper West Side, and did so with a write up from the New York Times.
Kebab aur Sharab is helmed by the successful restaurateur Salil Mehta, who has previously run eateries that were awarded Michelin stars.
“Do as the name suggests and order a kebab—the baby goat one is exceptional,” reads a description from the Michelin Guide announcement. “Finely minced goat is formed around a skewer held together by thread, which is then unspooled tableside to deliver the juicy meat with just a whisper of spices and a hint of smokiness.”
The space has 55 seats in the main dinning room, with an additional 18 at the bar and around 20 in an outdoor dining set up.
The menu centers itself on kebabs and Indian street food, including purple yam crisp, lamb chops, river prawns curry, aslam butter chicken tikka, wagyu beef, crab legs, different types of bread, rices, and desserts.
