She shined bright like a diamond.

Super Bowl 2023? We think you mean the live broadcast Rihanna concert enjoyed by millions.
The Rihanna Super Bowl halftime show was one to remember from the mogul and musician, who has tended to focus on the former over the latter in recent years. Her last album, Anti, dropped in 2016, and the Rihanna Navy has begged for new music since. While new music may or may not be on the horizon, listeners enjoyed a taste of what makes Rihanna such an iconic performer during Sunday’s football game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Further, Rihanna’s performance featured a special surprise: Rihanna is pregnant and expecting her second child, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed with her reps. She gave birth to her first child, a son, in May 2022.
Rihanna’s decision to perform at the Super Bowl 2023 halftime show wasn’t without controversy, however. After the news was announced back in September, and again the in the lead-up to her performance this week, people have remembered her comments in 2019 about her refusal to perform, in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick. “I couldn’t dare do that. For what? Who gains from that? Not my people. I just couldn’t be a sellout. I couldn’t be an enabler,” Rihanna told Vogue at the time. “There’s things within that organization that I do not agree with at all, and I was not about to go and be of service to them in any way.” She hasn’t really addressed her change of heart, except to tell the Associated Press, “I felt like it was now or never for me. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, it’s an entertainer’s dream to be on a stage like that.”
Still, the internet was abuzz with joy to see Rihanna on stage again after all this time. In person at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, celebrities also turned out to see her — Adele, H.E.R., Blue Ivy, Cara Delevingne, and more. They were rewarded with a performance of the songs that made Rihanna a legend.
Clad in bright burning red, Rihanna took her stages from high in the air, floating on tablets with her dancers. She sang an extended montage of songs including “B*tch Better Have My Money,” “Where Have You Been,” “Only Girl,” “We Found Love,” “Rude Boy,” “Kiss It Better,” “Work,” “Wild Thoughts,” “Pour It Up,” “All of the Lights,” “Run This Town,” “Umbrella,” and more. She concluded with her moving power ballad, “Diamonds,” as she stood many feet above the crowd, clearly not afraid of heights. It was a true reminder of her impact on pop music — and the sheer amount of massive hits to her name.
