Status icons and symbols on Apple Watch
Learn about the icons and buttons that appear at the top of your Apple Watch and in Control Center.


Your Apple Watch is charging.


Your battery is low. Learn how to charge your Apple Watch.


Airplane Mode is on. Wireless features don’t work until you turn this setting off, but you can still use other features.



Do Not Disturb is on. Calls and alerts won’t ring or light up the screen until you turn this setting off. Alarms will still sound. If you’ve set up another Focus on your iPhone — such as a Focus for when you’re working — that icon appears here when the Focus is active.


Theater Mode is on. Silent Mode is also on, and the screen stays dark until you tap the screen, press a button, or turn the Digital Crown. This mode also keeps the screen dark even when you use the Always On feature. To turn Theater Mode off, open Control Center and tap the icon.


When your Apple Watch connects to a Wi-Fi network instead of your iPhone, the Wi-Fi icon appears in Control Center.



Your Apple Watch with GPS + Cellular is connected to a cellular network. The number of bars indicates signal strength.


Your Apple Watch isn’t connected to your iPhone. Move your devices closer together or turn off Airplane Mode.


Your Apple Watch with GPS + Cellular has lost connection to the cellular network.



Water Lock is on, and the screen won’t respond to taps. Press and hold the Digital Crown to turn off Water Lock. Learn about water resistance on your Apple Watch.


The red dot icon indicates that you’ve received a notification. Swipe down on the watch face to read it. Learn more about notificatons on your Apple Watch.


An app on your Apple Watch has used Location Services recently. Tap the blue arrow to find out which app requested your location.



Your Apple Watch is locked. Tap to enter your passcode and unlock.


Your Apple Watch is in Sleep mode. To exit Sleep mode, press and hold the Digital Crown. To turn off Sleep mode, swipe up to Control Center and tap the Sleep icon. If you’ve set up another Focus on your iPhone — such as a Focus for when you’re working — that icon appears here when the Focus is active.

Icons for active apps
Your Apple Watch shows icons for some active apps, like Walkie-Talkie or Phone
, at the top of your watch face. Tap the icon to return to the app.


This appears when you use Workout. If the Workout icon still appears after you end your workout, restart your watch.


Tap to open Walkie-Talkie, where you can get in touch with friends instantly.


In watchOS 8 and earlier, the Now Playing icon appears at the top of the screen when you’re listening to audio on your Apple Watch. In watchOS 9 and later, this icon doesn’t appear, but the app that’s playing audio appears at the top of the Dock.



This appears when you navigate with a third-party app. If the navigation icon still appears after you end your navigation, restart your watch.


The microphone icon means that your Apple Watch mic is listening. It appears when you’re talking to Siri, recording a voice memo, or using any app that activates the microphone, such as Handwashing or Walkie-Talkie.


A yellow circle means that your Apple Watch is in Low Power Mode.
