I am on a special, grandfathered plan with Audible that lets me still access the hundreds of audiobooks in my library without paying for one or two credits a month. I received this email on October 14, 2022 stating Audible’s new policy for returns.
Many people, like me, buy audiobooks at a discounted price that seem to be Amazon purchases, but are actually purchases of Audible content. These Audible audiobooks can be bought only with or after the purchase of the Kindle ebook. Unfortunately for Audible, it looks like they don’t get the cash but unhappy buyers are sent to Audible for refunds.
This new policy will allow Audible to deny refunds for their audiobooks purchased from Amazon. Such audiobooks better be final decisions from now. I think that drawing that line will make Audible’s life much easier as I doubt Amazon has been passing on the payments. Since I don’t even remember the one instance I sought a refund of an Audible audiobook bought from Amazon, this is a minor change. But it may be relevant to you.
We’re reaching out to let you know about a change to our policy, since you’ve made at least one return within the last year that was not purchased with an Audible credit.
Beginning October 17, only titles redeemed using Audible credits will be eligible for return. Titles purchased with credit card or debit card will not be returnable. As an active Audible Premium Plus member, you will still be able to return titles redeemed using Audible credits within 365 days of purchase.
Purchases made using any payment method before this date won’t be impacted and can still be returned within 365 days of the original purchase date, as long as you remain an Audible member in a credit earning plan.
