I began my move to NYC right after 9/11 when some were fleeing, even if only to NJ. I was convinced then, and am convinced now, that this city has the people and the density of conversation to produce solutions for COVID and other complexities faster and in a more appealing format than almost anywhere else. I have no intention of leaving.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City has ranked the second-best city in the world out of 100 cities in a new report released this week.
Resonance Consultancy, a global consultancy company, announced the world’s 100 top-performing cities in its annual World’s Best Cities Report.
New York City was beat out by London, which took the first place spot as the best city in the world for the sixth year in a row.
And while New York City was the epicenter during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, it’s still number two on the list. That’s because New York is a gathering place where “brains and bodies in indecent proximity to one another create the sparks of genius, invention, progress,” the report stated.
“Today New Yorkers stand at the ready, together and alone, on their stoops and balconies ready to defend their city. … However the world emerges, evolves or pivots out of our collective force majeure, it will happen here first. New York is, after all, #1—or thereabouts,” according to the report.
The company’s rankings quantify and benchmark the relative quality of place, reputation, and competitive identity for the world’s principal cities with metropolitan populations of one million or more.
The rankings don’t just consider cities as places to live, work, or visit, but take a more holistic approach using a wide range of factors that show positive correlations with attracting employment, investment, and/or visitors. These range from the number of culinary experiences and museums, to the number of Global 500 corporations, direct flight connections, and mentions each city has on Instagram.
“The World’s Best Cities rankings are composed of experiential factors that people consider most important in choosing a city to live and visit, as well as empirical factors that business decision-makers consider important for business or investment,” said Chris Fair, Resonance president and CEO.
