It's too early to have any reviews of the new Kindle Paperwhite (10th generation). It has better lighting for a screen with the same 300 ppi, a flat bezel, a minimum storage capacity of 8GB (up from 4), the ability to listen to Audible books with an external Bluetoothed speaker, an option for cellular as … Continue reading New waterproof Kindle Paperwhite offers more options plus a special limited-time offer of 6 months free of Kindle Unlimited

“Running Barefoot” by Amy Harmon — quick recommendation
"Walking Barefoot" is by Amy Harmon. It's gently flowing fiction with young romance and family. Has sad parts but is not one of those wring-you-out weepies. I recommend this as rewarding relief from heavier or more explicit fare.. Nicely, it's in the Kindle Unlimited program as are several of her other books.
Item 7: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet
Plastic is becoming a greater problem every day. Chinese accepted much of our country's trash for decades but has turned that spigot off. Nobody is willing to take on that burden. Unfortunately, a large chunk of the plastic produced has, whether in small pellets or in full size, entered our fresh water and ocean, contributing … Continue reading Item 7: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet

"The Library Book" author Susan Orlean. (Simon & Schuster; author photo by Noah Fecks) People of the book. I adore Susan Orlean’s new book, “The Library Book.” It’s a wide-ranging, deeply personal and terrifically engaging investigation of humanity’s bulwark against oblivion: the library. Item 6: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet
We live in a culture where it's often less expensive to buy a new widget than it is to repair your old widget. I certainly can't remember the last time I had a toaster or coffeemaker repaired. People used to resole their shoes. Other than hiking boots, hardly anyone does that either. I do reuse … Continue reading Item 6: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet
If you want a great audiobook narrator (a) who I love, (b) with a familiar name
Among narrators I'd recommend (some are long gone but left great audiobooks): Roy Dotrice, Frank Muller, Jim Dale, Scott Brick, George Guidall, Christopher Timothy, Kate Reading, Simon Vance, Michael Kramer, Grover Gardner, Simon Prebble, Campbell Scott, and Davina Porter. Expert narrators are in high demand by authors who believe they'll be a good fit for … Continue reading If you want a great audiobook narrator (a) who I love, (b) with a familiar name

Item 5: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet
I long ago began substituting fish and dairy products for beef and lamb as the statistics on the contribution of livestock to global warming are well established. I realize that a largely plant-based diet is the healthiest for the planet but don't like the mouth feel of legumes and really do enjoy eating cheese, the … Continue reading Item 5: what I plan to do to help #savetheplanet

1.5 degrees Celsius is the limit for comfortable living, says a landmark UN Climate Report
Commentators such as @EricHolthaus (follow him on Twitter for insights about climate and weather) have noticed the obvious, as discussed below. Addressing global warming and climate change is not simply a technical issue, a solution will require major societal changes. The Nation is definitely on the progressive end of the media. Even if you're not, … Continue reading 1.5 degrees Celsius is the limit for comfortable living, says a landmark UN Climate Report
