I love the bustle, the activity, the change, the hope, and so much more. I live on the Upper West Side of Manhattan — actually, the Lincoln Square area bounded more or less by Columbus Circle, the west side of Central Park, W 80th Street, and W 57th Street (but believe me, people quibble about those lines). Blue Bottle Coffee opened today at 279 Amsterdam Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets, the former home of Gina la Fornarina. The cafe is known for its close attention to where its coffees are sourced. Thanks to Gretchen for the tip.
Friedmans is now open at 130 West 72nd Street near Columbus Avenue, the former home of 72nd Street Bagel and (briefly) Milk & Honey. Friedman’s is essentially an all-day diner, with breakfast foods, entrees, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more. The restaurant has lots of gluten-free options too. See the full menu here. Design Within Reach is opening a new location at 2162 Broadway between West 77th and West 76th Streets, the former home of Sephora. The home furnishings and design store is expected to open in early 2019, the company said. The company’s previous UWS store closed in 2015.
The Bar Method, a barre studio at 2387 Broadway (87th), is in the midst of a “soft open” with plans to hold a grand opening the weekend of September 28-30. The studio offers workouts based on dance exercises.
Hair salon Tresses Belle Studio is planning to open today at 521 Columbus, with a grand opening from 5 pm to 9 pm, the owner tells us.
