From flea markets to schools to music classes, central gathering spots are closing throughout the neighborhood to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
We’re creating an ongoing list of closures in the neighborhood. This will also include partial closures or places where visitation is limited.

All New York Public Library events and programs are cancelled through March 31, though the libraries remain open.
The American Museum of Natural History will be temporarily closed to the public starting tomorrow, Friday, March 13. Updates regarding the Museum’s status will be posted to its website, http://www.amnh.org.
Lincoln Center tweeted: “In light of circumstances involving the COVID-19 virus, the performing arts institutions on the Lincoln Center campus will suspend constituent public performances and screenings as of 5pm Thursday night for the month of March.”
Merkin Hall at the Kaufman Music Center, 129 West 67th Street, will be closed until the end of March.
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will close effective Saturday, March 14.
The Jewish Community Center (JCC), 334 Amsterdam Avenue, announced they will be closed until March 27.
The New York Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th Street, has several program cancellations and postponements. Go to ethical.nyc for a list.
Grand Bazaar NYC, 100 West 77th Street, will close its weekly Sunday market until March 29. Executive Director Marc Seago noted, “Our staff will receive their regular wages during this time and in two weeks, we will reevaluate the situation and either open for business again or extend the suspension.”
Dorot, 171 West 85th Street, cancelled all its programs as of Thursday, March 12, until further notice. All home-based programming including the Friendly Visiting Program will continue for now. (One senior said, “We got through polio, we’ll get through this.”)
All of Goddard Riverside’s senior centers and programs remain open and in operation. However, Goddard is postponing public Community Arts performances at the Bernie Wohl Center – specifically, the remaining Women History Artist Month shows. Anyone coming to a Goddard facility should expect to be screened prior to entry. Executive Director Roderick Jones said ”attendance is slightly down, but seniors are still enjoying the programs.”
The New Jewish Home, 120 West 106th Street, is restricting all visitors, but arranging FaceTime and phone calls for residents. They are also cancelling all “off-unit activities” for residents, restricting gatherings to individual units.
Rodeph Sholom School, 168 West 79th Street, will be closed on Thursday, March 12, and Friday, March 13. A decision will be made about reopening on Monday by Sunday and parents will be notified.
Fordham University, which has a campus between West 60th and 62nd Streets, has suspended all face-to-face classes indefinitely, and started online classes on Wednesday.
Columbia University and Barnard College are doing remote learning for precautionary reasons, though the campus remains open. Spring break starts next week.
Yeshiva University, undergraduate classes on the Beren and Wilf campuses will be canceled through the week and will resume on Monday, March 16.
Symphony Space, 95th and Broadway, has postponed two upcoming performances in the Just Kidding series at Symphony Space.
Ramblin’ Dan’s music classes for children will be closed through March 19, when another decision will be made. “Of course I will refund you 100%,” Dan Griffith wrote. “I will record a class of sorts tomorrow and post online.”
ESWS Music Together closed their 75th St locationthrough Sunday. It happens to coincide with the end of the semester, so they won’t restart classes until March 28.
The Art Students League of New York is closed through March 31st.
The Metropolitan Opera has cancelled all performances this month effective tomorrow.
Jerry Seinfeld has cancelled his weekend shows at the Beacon Theater, until such time in the future when “we can relax and enjoy it a lot more,” he said. “Hold onto your tickets…a rescheduled date will be announced shortly.”
All Bard Graduate Center buildings will be closed until Monday, March 15 for deep cleaning. Our gallery will resume regular hours on Tuesday, March 17. Also, all public programs are cancelled through April 15.
Symphony Space has “made the decision to suspend all programs in our theaters through April 1.
“Broadway shows will suspend all shows as of Thursdayfor the next month following Gov. Cuomo’s mandate to bar gatherings of more than 500 people,” the NY Daily News reported.
All Catholic elementary schools within the Archdiocese of New York will close effective Monday, March 16, 2020, until Friday March 20, 2020, with the possibility of a lengthier closure. In addition, all activities and all sporting events and practices have been cancelled indefinitely.
CEC3 is postponing all meetings through the end of March. Check their website for rescheduled dates.
Film at Lincoln Center has suspended all screenings and will be closing the Walter Reade Theater and the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center effective 5 pm this evening.
Carnegie Hall has cancelled all performances through March 31.
