Revisiting the loss of parking spaces on Central Park West to make room so that bicyclists are less likely to get killed

This is an update to a story that I’ve posted about previously. Because bicyclists sometimes lose their lives in confrontations with powered vehicles, Central Park West, the multi-lane road along Central Park’s west side is losing parking for 400 vehicles who found nests immediately next to the park sidewalk. That space is being used to make room for a protected bike lane.

Since I last posted, one of the buildings with a group of affected car owners filed suit trying to stop the change. They lost and the Department of Transportation is already shutting parts of Central Park West to make the needed changes. If you’re interested in more details, here are articles that describe the chronology.
