Call me cynical but I never quite believe claims spills will be limited in scope or cleaned promptly. Even if the use of fossil fuels were completely without adverse consequences, the harm caused by the production and transport process would be reason to move to alternative, renewable energy sources. The spill in Patagonia definitely call for tears for anyone who’s ever seen wondrous videos such as “The Blue Planet” series, “Planet Ocean,” and “Planet Earth.” The massive dead areas in the Gulf of Mexico surrounding spills that have never been plugged are places that could have continued to produce life and food.
