Veterinarians have disproportionately high suicide rates

Unfortunately this report makes perfect sense to me. Physicians already have a higher suicide rate than the general public due to the stress and long hours of their profession. But vets, particularly small animal vets, bear an additional emotional burden of treatment with a concerned owner that frequently ends in terminating the animal’s life in the presence of that owner’s grief. No wonder they suicide. A reason certainly to be even more appreciative of the services they offer.
