Excellent, detailed, explanation of where U.S. handling of pandemics has failed so abysmally.

The key issues are becoming informed early on, arranging for wide-spread testing, and keeping/disseminating the statistical data that allows productive planning, e.g., figuring how we’ll have the millions more beds we may need. This administration made mistakes at every key stage from gutting the office that would over engaged in the necessary oversight and information distribution to its many disastrous choices about testing. These mistakes have consequences. Even now there’s more focus on the trying to fix the stock market and give cash to the fossil fuel industry than in making a massive effort to expand the testing effort NOW.

I’m just hoping we don’t wind up being a much larger version of Italy which is having a tough time indeed.
