The devastating effect of neonicotinoid pesticides on insections has been known for awhile but discounted because of the pesticides’ effectiveness in protecting crops. Unfortunately, the lack of progress in protecting bees — the pollinator for many of our key food crops — continues to be a huge problem. Bees that are dead or nonfunctional for that essential purpose are a disaster for the expanded production we’re going to need as other food sources fail.
